Alright, so we have a lovely little theme going. I like the As the Bible Turns theme. So I'm gonna go with that tonight. So in this episode of As the Bible Turns, we are in Genesis chapter 38. And at the beginning of Genesis chapter 38, it's got Judah. And Judah left home and moved to Adjulum. And he stayed with his friend Hira, right? But then while he was over there in Hira, he saw a lady there, a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. And he was like, Oh, I like her. So it's like, okay, I'm gonna marry her. So he married her and they started having some kids, right? So the first person that was born between those two was named the kid was named Ur. And then she became pregnant again, had another kid, and they named him Onan. And then she gave birth to a third son, and his name was Sheila. And they were living in Kizah, down there in um Kizah when they had these kids, right? So as uh time went on, you know, uh Ur, he became old enough to have a um wife given to him. So Judah went and arranged marriage and had an arranged marriage. You know, that's what they do back then. They used to arrange those marriages, they still do it now in some places, but not so much. It's kind of uh foreign concept here where we live at in the United States of America. But he went and arranged for him to marry a young woman, and that woman's name was Tamar. So, but Ur, he was wicked in the Lord's sight, so you know, wickedness in the Lord's sight in that time mean that judgment fell on you, right? So I don't know what Ur did, but he did something to really upset God. So God ended up um causing judgment to fall on Ur and he lost his life. So that left Tamar as a widow. Wasn't nothing she did, but all of a sudden she don't got no husband now. So now it was left to Onan to marry Tamar so that he could produce seed for his brother because that was the custom at the time, like they had to have somebody to uh continue the lineage, right? So he was supposed to get with her so that he could uh produce seed for his brother. Well, um, Ur was like, Well, she all right, but I don't like her like that. So, you know, I'll I'll get with her, but I ain't trying to have no baby by her, whatever. So he would do that, he would get with her, but then he would uh sabotage the situation so that she wouldn't get pregnant, and then God saw him do that, and he was like, uh-uh, man, you can't be doing you can't be rolling like that. That's not how we do, that's not right. So, guess what? Uh Onan lost his life too. So now we're down to Sheila, but Sheila was very young. So Judah told Tamar, he's like, You know what? Just go live back at your father's house, and when Sheila gets old enough, then I will let you marry her, marry him, and then you know, we'll continue the family line like that. But Judah was like, I don't know, something must be wrong with Tamar because two of my sons have already lost their life fooling around with her, so I'm not finna give Sheila to her, right? And so he sent her back to her father's house, and she down there waiting for Sheila to become grown, and then in the process of time, Sheila did become grown, and nothing's happening, like crickets, nobody's saying anything, no marriage has been arranged, and Tamar's still over there in her widowhood in her father's house. But then Judah he goes up um to um share his sheep because you know this is a happy time, this is a fun good time now. After his wife done passed, it wasn't a happy time for him in that aspect, but it was happy because they sharing the sheep. So we go up there to go and get his sheep sheared, and they came and told Tamar, I said, Girl, um, your father-in-law done went up there to share his sheep. So she was like, Okay, well, I got something for him. So she went out there on the roadside, y'all, and she put on like some uh garments or whatever, covered up her face, so that it appears that she was being like a prostitute, right? So then she sitting out there on the side of the road and he came by and she and he sees her. He like, Oh, I like her, she looked pretty good there, you know. And uh, you know, I my wife gone. I haven't been with nobody in a minute, so let me see if I can proposition her so that I can get with her right quick, right? So he pulled up on her and he's like, Hey, you know, uh, what I got to do, you know, so that we can get together. She was like, Well, what you want to give me? And he was like, Well, you know, uh, I got this goat back at the house that I can give you. Is that good enough? She was like, Okay, that's cool, that's cool, that's cool. But um, what you gonna give me in the meantime, so that I know that you're gonna actually come back and give me that goat. He was like, Well, I mean, I got this uh this walking stick and this signature cord, and you know, I can get that to you, you know, and I can give you my ID, you know, I can let you hold on to them things. She was like, Okay, that's fine, that's cool. I'll take it. So then, you know, she takes that stuff and they get together, and then he goes on about his business. She goes back and put on her widowhood garments at her father's house. And then he uh tells Hira, hey man, you know, I got with this girl that's prostitute that was over there on the side of the road up there. Will you go um and uh take this uh goat to her and get my stuff back? He was like, Okay, cool, man. I got you, I got you. So then he goes and uh tries to look for the girl, you know, and then he didn't see nobody. So he asked the people, he like, hey y'all, um, where was that prostitute, you know, that was sitting over here by the road? And he was like, What you talking about, man? When no prostitute over here, and then he it looked a little more, but he was like, you know what? I ain't finna keep asking these folks about this. So he was like, Okay, let me go back and tell um Judah. So he went back and he told Judah, he was like, Man, I asked them folks up there, and they was like, they don't know there wasn't no prostitute there. Um they don't even know what you're talking about. So he was like, Well, don't even worry about it, man, because they'll think we're crazy. They should start laughing at us if we come around asking about this uh prostitute. So they'll let her keep, you know, the stuff, forget it, you know, just take the goat back to the house. So then, y'all, it's three months later, and Taymar done got pregnant, so and you know, she's starting to show. So then they come and tell Judah, like, Y'all, Judah, your daughter-in-law them um played the harlot, man. She done been out there uh laying up like a prostitute, she done been pregnant, but got pregnant by somebody. He was like, What? Oh, y'all playing with me, y'all lying, man. Y'all lying. So he's like, Okay, well, just bring her in here so that we can burn her, since she's gonna act like that, since that's what she's gonna do. So then Tamar, like, okay, cool. Um, uh this stuff that I got right here, uh, take it out to him and tell him that whoever owned these uh items that is who I'm pregnant by. And then Judah, like, wow, oh my, oh wow, she is more righteous than I am because I didn't give Sheila to her. Oh wow, so y'all, y'all leave her alone. She alright, because you know what? I'm actually the daddy. Oh wow, y'all. Oh, oh my goodness. So, anyway, so then nothing happens to Tamar in that instance, but she is pregnant and she has twins. So the names of those twins are Zera and Perez. And the significant thing about the fact that she got pregnant, y'all, and she is having those two boys. That if you jump over here to Matthew chapter one, in Matthew chapter one, it starts with a genealogy, and it says, um, starting at verse one, I'm gonna read down verse three. This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac was the father of Jacob, Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers, Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar. So, this this is a record right here of Jesus and his ancestors. So, this act that Tamar did put her in the lineage of Jesus, put her in the royal line of the Messiah. Now, she was very deceptive when she did it, but it's still God used this situation to actually tie the bloodline through there. And actually, what was supposed to happen while they were continuing to do the Leverite um marriage, like they were supposed to do with first we had Ur, then we had Onan, then we were supposed to go to Sheila to produce that seed so that royal line could continue. So even though Tamar acted deceptive, she perpetuated the royal line, she kept the lineage going because she was able to produce that seed and have an heir for the family. It wasn't in the manner that it quote unquote should have been, but it still happened because of what she did, and that one act put her in the lineage of kings. She is the first woman mentioned in the Bible in the lineage of Jesus, Tamar. That Tamar, that one that they looked at as you know, that prostitute over there. That on one that they looked at something must be wrong with her. That one they looked at that she got to have a curse on her or something going on because my sons keep dying because they are with that Tamar, but that Tamar is listed in the genealogy of Jesus. So it's funny and it's wonderful at the same time how God will take a bad situation and he will turn it around for our good. God will take whatever it looks bad and he will make it right. God will fix what is broken in our lives to give us all the things that we never even thought of. He is um better than anything that we've ever gone through, and he will take everything and make it right. This is the God that we serve. He is greater, y'all, than anything that you will ever face. Whatever situation, whatever turmoil, whatever strife, whatever negative words and negative thoughts that have been said about you by other people, all you got to do is turn to God, turn to him and give those situations to him, and he will turn it for your good, he will make it right for you, he will fix it for you. And you know we're concentrating on the big fix in 2026. In 2026, that's what we're doing right now. So anything that you are facing, anything that looks like it's an impossibility, any mark or scar that somebody else has tried to put on you, turn to God and let him affix it, let him take it, let him make it right, let him uh wash you up and make you clean and beautify you. And just know that he loves you so much and he's right there with you every single step of the way. And with that, our episode of As the Bible Turns concludes, we can go to breakout rooms.
