All right, so we are talking about Genesis chapter 25 this evening. Genesis 2025 has 34 verses. It starts with the death of Abraham. And it starts, the first verse says, Abraham married another wife whose name was Kiturah. And she gave birth to him six sons, Zimran, Jokshan, Mida, and Midian, Ishbak, and Shua. Jokshan was the father of Shiva and Dida. And Dida's descendants were the Asherites, Latushites, and Lemumites. Midian's son was Epha, Efer, Hannah, Abida, and El Daa. These were all descendants of Abraham through Keturah. Now, this was the man that started out that didn't have any kids at all, but then received the promise from God that he was going to have a child of promise, which we know is Isaac. And then he and um well Sarah gave him the idea to have a baby with Hagar, and that's what ended up being Ishmael. So then he had uh Ishmael, and then came Isaac because that's what God promised him, not what he told him to do. And then look at there children, children, children, even in his old age. That's right, Miss Sharon. He kept having children, got another wife, and had a whole bunch of more kids and had more descendants, right? So look at God, like just giving him more than he promised him, more than enough, exceedingly abundantly above all he could ask or think. Because that's just what our God does. So then Abraham gave everything he owned to Isaac. Why? Because I just stated that Isaac was the child of promise. Isaac was the child that God birthed. Um, Isaac was the uh child that was anointed for the inheritance by God. God sent him apart for such a time as this, such a time as that, to receive all of the land and everything. So then, you know, it says before he died in um verse 6, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines, and he sent them off away from Isaac in the east, right? Because Isaac was the one who was guaranteed the inheritance by God. And Abraham was a man of God, and he was obeying what was already prophesied. So then he lived to be 175 years old. Wow. Ripe old age, it says in the New Living Translation, long and satisfying life. Breathe this last and join his ancestors in death. His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in that cave on Machpilah where he um bought. And I love how Brother Julian brought out that that was the first purchase of the land that was of the inheritance that was prophesied to him. I love that point that he pointed out. That was really awesome. Um, so then, you know, God blessed his son Isaac after Abraham's death, and he settled in Birlehir and in Negev. And then the Bible goes in and talks about Ishmael's descendants. He ended up having 12 clans, 12 children, and 12 different uh clans coming from those 12 children. Why does the Bible bring that point out? In my mind, it's it's a promise. God told Hagar when she was praying for um Ishmael and told Abraham too that he was going to increase Ishmael and he was going to make him, you know, a mighty nation. He was going to have a lot of children. He told him that. This is another fulfilling of a promise that God had made when just going through the genealogy of Ishmael and his descendants. Then you jump down to the birth of Esau and Jacob. So, you know, you got Isaac, and um, then he was 40 years old, he married Rebecca, and then we just talked about you know Rebecca's um lineage um previously, and then Isaac pleaded with the Lord on behalf of his wife because she was unable to have children. The Lord answered Isaac's prayer, and Rebecca became pregnant with twins. So it's our our prayers are so important. You know, oftentimes when we sit back and we think about you know prayer, Satan wants you to believe that your prayers do not work, that you're just wasting your time, you're just wasting your breath, but your prayers are moving things. Isaac pleaded with the Lord on behalf of his wife, and she was able to conceive because Isaac stood in the gap and pleaded for her. And then, well, no, while she was pregnant with these twins, you know, she noticed that she was having that they were having some struggles in the womb. And then she went to God herself. I love this part. She went to God and asked, Why is this happening to me? And God answered her prayer, her question. He said, The two sons in your womb will become two nations. From the very beginning, the two nations will be rivals. One nation will be stronger than the other, and your older son, Keshus, will serve your younger son. So this goes on to prove, which we already know, that God puts destinies upon children ever before they even make it into this world. Pastor Isom was just talking about how abortion is not something that God ever ordained. It is not something that has been stamped and approved by God. You know, that is something that the world, Satan, has uh came up with to try to kill the destinies upon the children that are coming into this world that God is creating. Satan never created anything except confusion, deception, and death. Kill, steal, and destroy is his job description, as John 10 10 has told us. So this these children have a destiny, have a prophecy, have um words spoken over them ever before they came out into this world, right? Um, as does every single child. And then when Ben Rebecca gained birth, you know, first we come out, we see Esau with the red thick hair. So they that's why they gave him that name. And then Jacob was caught grabbing Esau's heel. So they named him Jacob, which is um another name for heel grabber, right? So then they grew up, and then Esau became a skillful hunter, and then uh Jacob was quiet, you know. And then we see the first situation in the Bible, well, this situation right here, where um favoritism shows up, you know. One parent loves one child. Um Jacob, uh he um excuse me, uh Isaac loved Esau, and then Jacob was loved by Rebecca. So you got one child for the one parent, one child for the other parent, which could end up causing a whole lot of division in the house, as we will see going forward in the next chapters. So here's the uh going towards the end of this chapter, you can see Jacob out cooking some stew, right? And then Esau was out there hunting because he was a skillful hunter, but he wasn't as lucky that day. He comes home from the wilderness and he's exhausted and he's hungry, and he's like, Hey, I'm starving. Give me some of that stew of yours. Jacob, because he's very slick too, right? Trickster is well another name we don't think of Jacob. He says, All right, trade me your right as your firstborn son. Now remember earlier when I read in the chapter, and it said, the older son will serve the younger son. So then Esau says, What good is my birthright to me? I am about to die. And then he was like, First, swear to me, Jacob, swear to me that you know you're gonna give me this birthright and then I'll give you some of the stew. And he sweared it to him. Wow. And then he got some of the stew. He put uh he took instant gratification over long-term promise. Are we giving up the the next for the now? Are we giving up our spiritual inheritance for the now gratification? Are we holding ourselves back from what God has laid up for us because we don't we can't uh put off that gratification? We can't spend the time, we can't pay the price, we can't give up the things that he's trying to pull out of our lives because we just gotta have stuff right now, and exactly what he did. Um, so I looked up like um a lesson on it says understanding the birthright of um a lesson before Jacob and Esau, and this little section I looked up says, um, the birthright, Hebrew by Korah, in ancient culture was a privilege reserved for the firstborn son, entailing a major portion of the family inheritance and leadership responsibility. However, the Bible often showcases God's work through younger siblings challenging cultural norms and inviting us to consider his sovereignty in choosing whom he blesses. I've been reading a lot of the Bible lately, and I see all over the Bible where it says God does what he pleases. God does what he pleases, he blesses whom he wants to bless, he brings up who he wants to bring up, he puts down who he wants to put down. But Esau despised his birthright, which was like it was a big deal. That was a huge thing. He had rights as the firstborn son. He was supposed to get like the lion's share of the inheritance and other different things, and he traded it for a bowl of lentil stew. So, yeah, um, like we we have a great inheritance in the New Testament. We have a great inheritance that we have received because Jesus is our Lord and Savior. So we have um a covenant of uh saving, and we have a covenant of healing, we have a covenant of protection, we have a covenant of provision, and all of that that came to you was inherited and deposited inside of you when the moment you said Jesus is Lord, right? But you have to learn how to walk into your inheritance, walk into the things that God has placed on the inside of you. You know, I was reading today, I was um trying to read uh one of my books. Uh, I got so many books. This is The Hidden Man by E. W. Kenny. It's such an awesome book. And I opened it up, and like one of the first things that kind of jumped out at me is he was talking about the fruit of the spirit. And we talk about the fruit of the spirit all the time, but it just hit me that you know, love, joy, peace, patience, uh, long-suffering, gentleness, kindness, goodness, self-control are fruit of the spirit. Spirit, it highlighted to me when I was reading that and like just opening that book. These are all spiritual things, these are not natural things. So when we're trying to operate in spiritual things through the flesh, trying to operate in spiritual things in natural means that we will always get it messed up. And if we're trying to relate to spiritual things without seeking the source, which is the word of God, which is the Bible, then we will get it crossed and messed up. It is not anything of your mind, it is not anything of your five senses per se. It is something that you can sense, but it's not of your five senses. It is supernatural and it's spiritual. Love comes from your spirit, kindness comes from your spirit, peace comes from your spirit. All of that is housed inside of your spirit. And I don't know why, it's just like spirit just kind of highlighted to me today. Like, okay, like all of that comes from my spirit man. So we know God is a spirit. We are made in the image and likeness of God, so we had to be a spirit to be able to communicate with God through the spirit, right? Spirit and truth. That's how we are supposed to be communicating with God. So understanding that through um Genesis 25, that they he had an inheritance, he despised his inheritance. Let us never be those people that despise the inheritance that God has laid upon us because he has a great need of us for the destinies that he has placed upon our lives, like he placed destinies upon their lives, to be able to fulfill it, walk it out so that more people can come to the saving grace that God uh is here, Jesus is Lord, and that he has died for each and every one of us came up from that grave so that we can live a life abundantly blessed in his name and in his grace. And with that, I will yield.
